Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The large audience will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
