Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
